I am so flattered to be here and very excited to be sharing with you a few steps on our wedding-planning adventure. First of all, why the pear-tini? Well, I LOVE pear jelly beans and really a peartini tastes just like a liquid jelly bean with kick. Delicious! (And it doesn’t hurt that it matches on of our wedding colors

I have to tell you that I probably fall into the new stereotype of brides who ended up in this magical world of fondant, goccos, and dupioni completely by accident. To quote Giuliana Rancic in Modern Bride’s new ad campaign, “I am a modern bride because… I chased my career instead of boys.”

So during one of my career-chasing always-relocating, what-state-am-I-in plane trips I somehow ended up next to a guy who said “Hi, I am N”, made eye contact, and shook my hand…and I said “Hi” because really how can you be mean to someone who doesn’t use a cheesy pick-up line….and I haven’t stopped talking to him oh for 3 years-or-so now. I promise this is not a made-for-Lifetime plot line, although it does sound like that doesn’t it?

The rest of our story is probably just as non-traditional, as we continued dating long distance, until I was offered a temporary job assignment in Asia. Mr. Pear-Tini joined me as he was and still is extremely supportive of my career-chasing tendencies. Now we’re back in the one of the most stressed out cities in the world, NYC, and planning our winter wedding in our Midwestern hometown… yup we grew up and went to high school in the same town…coincidence huh?

With the Knot sternly telling me that we have close to 100 days left to go (and all those scary exclamation points!)… we are also (of course) moving apartments and hitting crunch time at work. However, we are so lucky to have the most supportive and helpful moms who are on-site coordinators, bargain-shoppers, and overall magic wedding elves.

We are planning a non-winter wonderland, non-Chistmas-y wedding (Gasp!) with few old traditions and hopefully a start of some new ones. I am really looking forward to sharing my great moments of indecision such as our much beleaguered Save-the-Dates and my current obsession – that elusive perfect pair of wedding shoes, as well as the fun DIY projects.

And I wanted to leave you with one of our wonderful engagement pics in Central Park!

Miss Pear-tini

Age: 26 Venue: Flower Conservatory in the Midwest City and State: New York, NY Wedding Date: December 2008 Shaken, not stirred: I belong to the new group of never-wanted-to-be-a-bride brides. I never gave much thought to getting married, let alone planning a wedding, but after our attemps to elope were thwarted, I have realized how much fun planning a wedding can be. I live and work (a lot) in NYC, and spend my (very limited) free time discovering new restaurants in NYC, gaming with my husband-to-be and playing with our two kittens. We are long-distance planning, a non-traditional James-Bond-meets-college-party celebration in the midwestern town where we both grew up.
